Kids - Tips for feeding healthy

-
Puree veggies and then put them in foods so they don't notice them. This works
well in a meat loaf for instance. You can mince
up or puree carrots, celery, zucchini,
squash and many other things and add it to meat
loaf, and they don't notice them and the meatloaf has an enhanced flavor.
- For pot roasts, you can cook lots of veggies along with,
whatever your favorites are, and then puree them
up along with the juice from the roast.
- Disguises the veggies and makes a gravy thickener
that's very healthy. Same for just
about any protein you cook, just cook the veggies
along with it to help flavor the food and
absorb all the flavor, then puree them up as a
sauce to serve over the food.
- Kids love fun things with food also. There are
lots of cook books out that show you how
different way to cut and prepare foods in fun
fashions or shapes. We have lots of special
little kitchen tools for preparing food in many
different ways.
- Carrots cut with a crinkle
cutter or long carrot curls are much more fun to
eat than regular old carrots.
- Celery can
be stuffed and then two pieces put together and
then cut into slices for fun little finger
foods.
- We used to make pictures or faces with
the food when serving it. Stuff like that,
and the kids all loved to help.
- Use zucchini in place of noodles
or rice in dishes. Zucchini is such a versatile
item and it has a tendency to take on the flavor
or whatever you put it with. If you shred it
coarsely, it gives the appearance of noodles in
dish and also gives you the feeling that you're
actually eating noodles. If you shred it finely,
it can pass for shredded cheese.
